RCMS Concert of Romantic Music Friday, August 24 in Rochester The Rochester Chamber Music Society (RCMS) in association with The Vermont Festival of the Arts, will present a concert of romantic music Friday, Aug. 24 at the Rochester Federated Church. A pre-concert talk by Larry Hamberlin begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m. The concert will include music of the Schumanns and Brahms: Clara, Robert, and Johannes; as well as the Brahms Horn Trio, considered one of the finest pieces of tonal chamber music for the horn. The performers will be horn player Dan Williams of the Philadelphia Orchestra, violinist Yumi Hwang-Williams, concertmaster of the Denver Symphony; and pianist Cynthia Huard of the RCMS. Williams began horn studies at the age of nine in the Philadelphia public school system and went on to attend Temple University and the Curtis Institute of Music. While at Curtis, he performed with the Concerto Soloist of Philadelphia (now the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia) and with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in its summer season. In 1975, he became a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he serves as the orchestra’s second horn player. He is also on the faculty of Temple University. Hwang-Williams began violin studies at the age of ten in Philadelphia, one year after emigrating from South Korea. At 15, she appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and was accepted as a student of Jascha Brodsky and Yumi Ninomiya-Scott at the Curtis Institute of Music. She has served as concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra since 2000 and is concertmaster for the Cabrillo Music Festival. She is a faculty member of the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver. She is also a member of the piano trio Tre Voce, which made a triumphant Carnegie Hall debut in February 2006. Huard has appeared as a pianist and harpsichordist throughout the United States and Europe. Her versatile musicianship is a key element of the summer concert series of the Rochester Chamber Music Society, where, as artistic director, she performs with internationally known artists. She has performed with the Lark Quartet, The Aston Magna soloists, cellist Nathaniel Rosen, and chamber players from the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony, the Toronto Symphony, and the Savannah Symphony. In additional to playing chamber music repertoire, Huard frequently performs in recital with vocalists Beth Kaiser and François Clemmons. She is an adjunct faculty member at Middlebury College. Concert admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information call 767-9234 or visit www.rcmsvt.org. ____________ |
