60 Bikes Donated
For the Third World

Gene Bianco of Chimney Savers reported yesterday that his third annual Pedals for Progress collection, held last Saturday, resulted in 60 donated bicycles.

Through the non-profit Pedal for Progress program, people in third-world countries are assisted in developing the skills to repair bicycles, as an economical and environmentally-safe method of transportation.

This year, as Bianco had hoped, more people dropped off bikes than in the prior two years.

The only problem was that fewer than half of those donating bikes chipped in the $10 needed, per bike, to pay for shipment. Bianco stands ready to make up the difference, but would also welcome donations.

Checks, made payable to "Pedals for Progress," may be mailed to Bianco at PO Box 246, Randolph, VT 05060.
