Morgan Mile Race This Saturday

The Morgan Mile Trotting Races will be held this Saturday on Morgan Mile Rd. in Brookfield. Morgan Horses will race in harness and under saddle, down the same famous road that Justin Morgan did over 200 years ago, beginning at 1 p.m.

Morgan is considered to be the founder of the Morgan breed. Famed for versatility, willingness, and even temperament, the horse was able to plow fields, pull a stylish carriage, be ridden under saddle, and win in races. His progeny went on to dominate the trotting race world until the mid-19^th century. Morgans left an indelible mark on the establishment of the Standardbred breed, which had considerable influx of Morgan blood.

Modern Morgans, known for their versatility and style, are used for sport, show, and recreation. The first American breed can be found world-wide, but Vermont remains a state where many fine Morgans are found.
