Defeat for Bethel Boys

Tanner Haskins led the Rockets soccer team with two goals and two assists in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Hornets in Bethel last Wednesday, Sept. 5, in Whitcomb’s season opener.

At 10:08 Haskins hit pay dirt that put Rochester up and out in front, then followed with an assist to Graham Leathers, who planted the orb in at 12:36 for a quick 2-0 Rocket tally. Whitcomb managed to hold Rochester scoreless for nearly 24 minutes before the Rockets struck one more time in the first half when Quique Murray delivered a Haskins pass into the nets at 36:10. At the break it was three-zip in favor of the Rockets.

Returning from the break, Rochester wasted no time when Ethan White sent one in at 2:24. Another solid blockage by the Hornets followed, lasting just under 36 minutes, before Haskins tallied the final goal of the game.

Liam McKinley and Cody Bowen shared goalie duties for Rochester, while Joel Wright manned the Hornet nets.

Two more freshmen suit up for Whitcomb this season—Lloyd Flint and Tyler Taitague.
