RUHS Girls Soccer By Hannah Becker The Randolph Lady Ghosts played two more games this week. They had one win and one loss, both at home. They improve their record to 2-3. The Ghosts played at home tonight, and play again Friday at Northfield. Loss vs. Harwood The Gal Ghosts played another tough game against Harwood on Friday. They played strong in the first half, and were aggressive and offensive minded. Amanda Bowen scored the lone goal for Randolph, unassisted. Randolph was looking good going into the half. Things changed in the second half of the game changed. Harwood was aggressive to the ball and was a step in front of Randolph the whole time. The Highlanders went on a scoring spree, putting three balls into the net in a five-minute period of time. The Ghosts were never able to recuperate. Harwood won the match 4-1. Win vs. U-32 The Randolph Varsity girls soccer team walked away with a win after an intense match against Union-32 at home on Monday. The game was a make-up from August 30th. The Gal Ghosts came out strong, dominating in the first five minutes, but one slip of the defense and U-32’s Jessica Couture scored with 35:17 in the half. The Ghosts bounced back and became more aggressive. This worked for Randolph and they finally scored. With 28 left in the half Amanda Gerstenmaier scored, assisted by Erika Smith. The Ladies kept up the intensity and the half ended with a tie, 1-1. Arielle Connolly of Randolph played in net with one save. Randolph came out strong in the second half, and dominated for most of the time, but when U-32 had shots, they were close ones. Fortunately for the Ghosts, U-32 wasn’t able to put the ball in the net. Randolph had many offensive chances in the second half also. With 20-45 left in the game the Ghosts had an offensive chance when Gerstenmaier, assisted by Connolly, took advantage of a Raiders miss-play and walked the ball into the net. The Ghosts were ahead 2-1, but U-32 wasn’t willing to give up. With about a minute left in the game the Ghosts defense had a blooper and U-32 had a breakaway chance. Randolph’s goalie Erica Webber came out and made a great save. Unfortunately, Webber was out of the 18 and played the ball with her hands, an automatic Red Card. It was a good save none-the-less. Coach Viens put Connolly back in goal and went a player down in the field. There were :56 seconds left and U-32 had a direct kick. The kick went over the Ghosts wall and straight into Connolly’s hands. Randolph was able to keep possession for the remainder of the game and walked off the field with a 2-1 win. ____________ |
