Big Week For

Gal Ghosts

The Randolph Gal Ghosts had a good week with two big wins and one loss. They beat Peoples Academy and Northfield, and they fell to North Country. The Ladies improve their record to an even 4-4.

Win vs Peoples Academy

The Randolph girls’ soccer team defeated Peoples academy on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1-0. It was a very aggressive game and a good match-up. The Ghosts came out a little slow, but quickly picked up the pace. With 15:59 left in the first half, Gwen Reis, assisted by Hannah Scott, put Randolph on top 1-0.

The second half was very aggressive with many direct and indirect kicks mixed in. Neither team was able to score. The Ghosts defense did a good job keeping the ball out on Peoples’ eight corner kicks. Despite a few late attempts by Peoples the Ghosts were able to walk way with the win.

Arielle Connolly and Erica Webber split time in net with four and six saves, respectively.

Win vs Norhtfield

The Gal Ghosts came away with a huge win against Northtfield on Friday, 2-1. The Marauders had a 42-game home-winning streak that the Ghosts were able to break.

Northfield came out quickly when Crystal Berry, assisted by Laura Ostrout, put the ball in the net with 27:32 left in the first half. But the Ghosts continued to play hard and came back just 14 minutes later on a goal from Erika Smith, assisted by Molly Poirier. The half ended with the game tied 1-1.

The Gal Ghosts were pumped up for the second half and came out strong. Ashley Chase scored unassisted in the second minute of the half. Randolph kept up the pressure all game, but were unable to score again.

The game was very aggressive, as there were a combined 27 fouls. Connolly and Webber combined for eight saves in the win.

Loss vs North Country

North Country made the long trip to Randolph on Monday to square off against the Ghosts.It was an even match-up and a good first half. Each team had offensive chances, but neither was able to convert them into goals. At halftime the game stood at 0-0.

It was the same thing in the second half—each team had their chances, but weren’t able to score. Finally, with 13:20 left on the clock, Preslee Jacobs of North Country, assisted by Katy Grime, finally put the ball into the net. But it wasn’t long until Randolph was back in it.

With 9:20 left, Reis took the benefit of a penalty kick and scored. The second half ended with the game tied 1-1.

In the first overtime, Randolph was slow to the ball and the Ladies were losing the 50-50 balls. Fortunately for Randolph, North Country wasn’t able to convert. In the second overtime the Ladies kept the pressure up, until one misplay allowed Grime to score with Randolph only :29 away from a tie.

Connolly and Webber combined for 13 saves in regular time, and Connolly had four saves in overtime.
