Shooting Threat A request by members of the Elizabeth Mine Community Advisory Group for a site visit to to see the over $3 million worth of work done this summer at the Elizabeth Mine Site has been denied due to a threat against Environmental Protection Agency by a neighbor of the site. On Sept. 19 an Orange County Sheriff's officer served an administrative order from the Agency of Natural Resources at the home of Henry Stanley at 184 Mine Road in South Strafford. Stanley apparently became agitated, allegedly stating that he would shoot anyone form the Environmental Protection Agency that comes on to his land. He allegedly added that if agency personnel are accompanied by cops he would shoot the cops also. As a result, the Enforcement Division of the Agency of Natural Resources sent out a "important announcement" on Oct. 2 advising people in the Agency of this threat. While making people aware of the situation they added "Needless to say we will continue with our enforcement case against Mr. Stanley". Henry Stanley purchased the property located off Mine Road and previously owned by Kelly Welch, around five years ago. Since that time he and those who also resided on the property have been the subject of a number of legal actions, including violations of the town's zoning laws. The Superfund site itself is off-limits to the public. | |||||
