The 2007 Vermont Tech women’s soccer team captured the college’s first-ever women’s championship in the Yankee Small College Conference Saturday, Oct. 20 by defeating arch-rival New Hampshire Tech, 3-2 in the YSCC Championship tournament final in Concord, N.H. Coach Jenn Norton led the team to an outstanding 11-5-1 record in the program’s second year of existence. The victory earned Vermont Tech a berth in the USCAA National Championship Tournament in Rochester Hills, Mich., which begins on October 31. This year’s team has been led by seniors Shannon Leland of Arlington; Jessica Jettie of Swanton; freshman stand-outs Amy Galipeault of Danville; and Jessica Arkley of Hampstead, N.H. Jettie was named YSCC Tournament MVP and Leland was named Best Defensive Player. Goaltender Arkley finished the regular season with five shut-outs. After competing in the USCAA National Tournament, the team will fly to Portland, Maine to compete in the season finale, the Sunrise Final Four Championship Tournament. ____________ |
