Won’t Somebody Do Something? I often write and send letters to Vermont newspapers. In July I called for a grassroots uprising to take back our governing from a group gradually taking it from our control. In August I called for a peaceful coup d’etat to regain our control. In that letter I reminded humans of their Earth connection and the need to work in harmony and balance with bioregions, ecosystems, and nature, and covering rights of animals and plants. As many Americans understand, this is a time like no other; our constitution is being ignored, our democracy is in grave danger. In past history when we had similar threats there were elected officials who had the courage to speak out. Now our country faces a crisis; spiritually, ecologically, economically, politically. Where are the courageous voices? How do you get people—as Molly Ivins put it—"out in the streets banging pots and pans?" If you share my perceptions you know that all over our planet there is a "Blessed Unrest" as Paul Hawken writes. There will be a great turning one of these days. I urge all of you to do what you can to help. I do not have the internet available, but I have had newsletters and phone calls about the call for a general strike on election day, Nov. 6. I don’t think this country has ever had one. When my husband and I lived in Italy we experienced one—when everything stops, the government does something quickly. We can’t let the group governing us put a "royal" presidency in place taking over the courts and Congress, prioritizing everything and fighting wars whenever they can get away with it to maintain our war economy. It’s time to act. Please do something. Marion Leonard Rochester ____________ |
