EAST BARRE—Marion T. Grant, 97, died late Monday night, Nov. 5, 2007 at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. She was born March 4, 1910 in East Bethel, the daughter of Charles Wellington Titus and Marsha (Godfrey) Titus. She grew up in Vershire and Chelsea, and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1927. Shortly after finishing her schooling, she married Walter Hackett Grant, on July 30, 1927. They made their home in Chelsea Village and then on West Hill. They would later return to the village in Chelsea. She had lived in Barre for the past several years. Her husband died June 10, 1981. Along with raising their five children, she also worked as a cook. During her career, she prepared food at the Woodstock Inn, Green Mountain Stock Farm in Randolph, for the Chelsea School, and the Masonic Home in Randolph. She also cooked at a private home. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and braiding rugs. Survivors include three sons: Leon W. Grant of Bradenton, Fla., Authur W. Grant of Addison, and Gordon T. Grant of South Ryegate; a daughter, Beverly Casey of Barre; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Gilman of Chelsea and Dorothy Porter of Randolph; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald W. Grant; and several brothers and sisters. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea. Burial will take place at a later date in the Highland Cemetery, also in Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society/Vt.
