It was a feast for the eyes and senses when a blast of golden Florida sunshine barreled into Weston Street last Friday as Randolph Rotarians took delivery of almost 900 boxes of pre-ordered navel oranges and pink grapefruit, direct from the growers in Indian River county, central Florida. "Citrus for Christmas" is another of Rotary’s initiatives to raise funds and give the community the opportunity to enjoy a seasonal treat. The project was a joint effort of Randolph and Bethel Rotary clubs. Randolph’s Jack Cowdrey led the local effort by making arrangements, lining up the sellers, and supervising a team of volunteers to get the fruit to its intended destination before it had the chance to freeze. Together the 45-plus members of Randolph Rotary sold 877 boxes,, some of them donated to food shelves and other service organizations in the area. |
