The Royal boys’ team traveled to Bethel to take on Whitcomb last Tuesday. The Royals came out with a 56-15 win. The Royals played a dominant first quarter, putting 18 points on the board and holding the Hornets to zero. The Royals led 38-11 at the half. Miles Ellis and Dustin Parker led all scorers with 10 points each. Jack Howe and Jake Timian each had eight points, and Tyrell Manning contributed seven. Damian Russo was the leading scorer for Whitcomb with six points. Deven Hill added four. Win vs. Peoples Last Friday the Royals had their home opener of the season. This match-up with the Wolves of Peoples Academy was a dogfight to the end. After the first quarter of play, the Royals were winning by the slimmest of margins, 13-12. The second quarter was just like the first, as the lead went back and forth. Going into the locker room, the Royals had lost their edge and were all tied up with Peoples, 26-26. Coming out of the locker room, the Royals took a little while to get going. After the third quarter, SoRo had fallen behind, 37-32. With the help of a couple of huge defensive plays, the Royals took off offensively. The Royals started scoring left and right. By the end of the game, the Royals had come out on top, 55-47. Ellis and Manning shared the highest points total of the night with 17 points. The Wolves’ leading scorers were Tom Pairie with 14 points and Nick Wilder, 11. Peoples Academy dropped from a Division II team to a Division II team this year and has started 0-3. Win at Northfield The Royals traveled to Northfield on Tuesday to face off against the Marauders. This game was a nail-biter until the very last buzzer. The Royals lost in Northfield last year, so they were looking to redeem their defeat. The first quarter was very close on the score board with the Royals leading 12-9. Joey Kinnarney had four points in the quarter, with Jake Timian, Miles Ellis and Dustin Parker all chipping in. Tyrell Manning had the only three-pointer of the quarter for the Royals. The Royals started clicking in the third quarter while putting up 12 points. Ellis added four more, Cal Wilmot made one from the foul line, while Jack Howe, Manning and Parker scored as well. The fourth quarter was more of a defensive period for the Royals than an offensive one, even though the Royals put 10 points on the scoreboard. Kinnarney added two more to finish the night with six points; Ellis had two as well to lead the Royals for the night with 10. Wilmot finished with three, Parker ended with nine and Manning had eight. The Royals shot 50% from the free throw line, making 13 of their 26 attempts. Cody Chambalian had 21 points for Northfield to lead all scorers, while Seth Tisdale contributed eight. ____________ |
