My favorite season is fast approaching and as usual my pulse quickens, my eyes brighten, my ears listen and my taste buds awaken, my nose is alerted and my feelings are stimulated. The season is not spring, summer or autumn, but the season of giving—Christmas. I don’t think, dream or fantasize the season as of getting but of giving. The opportunities multiply and the spirit moves. Countless opportunities present themselves to bring joy, peace, love and substance to the down-hearted, discouraged, lonely, elderly, and financially embarrassed. You know, the original Christmas was not an occasion of seeing how much could be gotten but of how much could be given. The celebration started because of the greatest gift of gifts being given. The birth of our Savior who gave us the greatest present of all—redemption. What a gift, unfathomable. How do we feebly thank Him? Well, the season of giving affords us many opportunities, by visiting the lonely and ill, providing food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, gifts for those unable to give, decorating for the elderly, praying for the imprisoned. May each of you have a blessed, glorious, soul-satisfying Christmas—because others were loved, cared for and remembered. Merry Christmas to all my old neighbors, friends, associates, and fellow volunteers and their families. Clara C. Jobes De Kalb Junction, N.Y. ____________ |
