The defeat of the proposal to move the Randolph town offices to the former Co-op building on Pleasant Street is very unfortunate for the future of our town. I always have a difficult time understanding why the common sense approach to a problem is not the obvious solution for the majority of voters. Since the proposal to increase the payment to the White River Valley Ambulance received a majority of votes, I would conclude that the reason the proposal to move the town offices to the former Co-op failed was unrelated to money. I strongly suspect the defeat resulted from prejudicial voters with some unfounded suspicions of or objections to any proposal involving Sam and Ginny Sammis. What past actions by the Sammises would create a lack of voter trust? Don’t these same people recognize and appreciate the number of positive contributions the Sammises have made to benefit our community? Hopefully, in the future Randolph voters, with unfounded biases aside, will be more open-minded, using a common sense approach toward addressing proposals. Consequently, they, like the Sammises, can positively affect the common good, thus strengthening our community. After all, isn’t that what all Randolph residents want and need? Chuck Webb Randolph |
