Bernard Butterfield

WHITE RIVER JCT.—Bernard Butterfield, 83, died Wednesday morning, December 26, 2007 at Genesis Elder Care in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born July 20, 1924 in Stockbridge, the son of Clayton E. and Sarah (Annis) Butterfield.

He was raised in Stockbridge and attended the Ranney School there. He had worked at Webster’s Mill, Lacillade’s Mill, Weyerhauser and Thompson’s Trucking and had lived in Stockbridge, Braintree, Rochester, Warren, Randolph and White River Jct.

He married Laura Day in April 1946 in Bethel. He was later married to Bertha Stetson in December 1972 in White River Jct.

He had been a member of the West Hartford Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include two sons, Leslie Butterfield of Battlefield, Mo.; and Laurence Butterfield of Braintree; a daughter, Judy White of Randolph; a brother, Clayton Butterfield of Randolph; two sisters, Joyce Rhoades of Royalton and Helen Benoir of White River Jct.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Butterfield, in 2003; three brothers: Richard, Frederick and Earl Butterfield; and three sisters: Mildred, Leona and Evelyn.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel on Rte. 66 in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Sandra Rilling was the organist. Burial followed at the Maplewood Cemetery in Stockbridge. Calling hours were Friday evening, Dec. 28 at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
