Hockey Report

The last week of hockey action proved to be an exciting and successful one for the locals and their teams. The Northfield HS Marauders had two consecutive shutouts with goalie Stefan Wuoinen putting in an outstanding effort for six straight periods. They beat Burr & Burton 2-0 with goals by Corey Hunt and Tyler Goodrich, both assisted by Alex Green. This was followed by a 3-0 win over Stowe. Green had a big night with two goals and an assist. Goodrich also scored in this game.

The boys next play Mt. Mansfield away on Wednesday and North Country at home on Saturday. The teams record is now 6-4-1.

Bantams

The Bantam team continued to roll along with two more wins to bring their record to 15-1-0. They beat Harwood 8-1 and Barre 7-3. Dakota Enberg had a hat trick in each game. Along with their offensive potency, this is a group of boys that has played together for many years. Locals Sam Dyer, Alex Start, Ben Leblanc, and Cody Martin are all key members of this team.

Their next two games are against Woodstock away and Pleasant Valley at home.

Girls Under 12

The Girls Under 12 team won against Hartford 8-0. A team defensive effort produced a shutout for goalie Markie Delude. Goals were scored by Libby Start, Hillary Amell, D J Doney, Cheyenne Tardie, Lydia Hoffman (two), and Kristen Dukette (two). The girls’ next game is away against Harwood on Saturday.

Squirt Team

Jacob Kaplan got his first career goal in a game on Saturday, Jan. 5, against Montpelier at the Civic Center. Despite his team going down 8-2, he was grinning from ear to ear at stick-n-puck on Saturday night. The squirt team is for players age 9-10. Riley Corey is the goalie for the Mite team, which is for kids age 7-8. We understand he is learning fast and really enjoying his new position.

Mite Team

Our last bit of hockey news is about Alf Rylander. He plays on a mite team called the Hanover Wild. His team went down 6-5 in a tough battle. Alf had a goal and an assist. His third period goal tied the game at 5-5.

In New Hampshire, the players this age play full ice. In Vermont, the mites play what is called cross ice hockey. This topic will be discussed in a future Rink Rat column.
