Local Ski Racers Are Expected
To Compete in ‘Masters’ Race

Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you can’t be a ski racer!

The New England Masters races are coming to Middlebury Snow Bowl on Jan. 19 and 20 for a slalom and giant slalom, respectively, and to Suicide Six on Monday, Jan. 21 for the Bunny Bertram Memorial Slalom.

The New England Masters schedule includes more than 20 races throughout the season, culminating in the Eastern Championships at Whiteface Mountain on March 6-9.

The opener at Killington drew approximately 90 male and female racers, while the second week of racing at Ragged Mountain in New Hampshire brought approximately 120 racers competing in five-year incremental age groups for racers from 18 to over 80, competing for age-group prizes.

Last year’s series winners, Mark George and Carolyn Beckedorff, are expected to compete, as are local contenders Steve Foley of Killington, Hans Truckenbrod, Fred Dieffenbach and Bill McCollom of Bethel, and John Lussier of Randolph.

Interested racers need to be members of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (www.ussa.org). Entries for the two Middlebury races should be sent to Middlebury Ski Club Race Secretary, PO Box 432, Rochester, VT 05767

For Suicide Six, entries should be sent to Woodstock Ski Runners, Race Secretary, PO Box 171, S. Pomfret VT 05067

New racers may be eligible for temporary memberships available from the United States Ski Association website or from the New England Masters website (www.nemasters.org).
