Arlo Guthrie at Chandler Music Hall Chandler’s centennial season wouldn’t be complete without the return of the iconic folk legend, Arlo Guthrie. His "Solo Reunion Tour: Together at Last" comes to Chandler Music Hall Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The son of legendary folksinger Woody Guthrie, Arlo grew up surrounded by musicians, all of whom were significant influences on his musical career. He gave his first public performance at age 13 and quickly became involved in the music that was shaping the world during the 1960s, becoming a distinctive, expressive voice in a crowded community of singer-songwriter-musicians. Guthrie’s career exploded in 1967 with the release of "Alice’s Restaurant." The title song premiered at the Newport Folk Festival and helped foster a new commitment among the ’60s generation to social consciousness and activism. His once-banned "Coming into Los Angeles" is a classic. Over the last four decades, Guthrie has toured throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, winning a wide, popular following. In addition to his accomplishments as a musician—playing the piano, guitar, harmonica, and a dozen other instruments—he is a natural-born storyteller and raconteur. Vignettes of Woody Guthrie, social commentary, and rambling off-the-wall anecdotes figure prominently in his performances. This concert is presented by the Chandler Center for the Arts, with sponsorship by Gifford Medical Center and Penny Brook Construction. Media Sponsor is The Point. For reserved seat tickets, call the Chandler Box Office at 802-728-6464 or got to www.chandler-arts.org. During intermission, visit the Chandler Gallery for "Building on Tradition—Piece by Piece: The Quilts of Holly Junker." ____________ |
