Randolph Gymnastics

By Jenna Miller & Sam McPhetres

Friday, Jan. 18, was yet another away meet for the Randolph gymnasts. Both junior high and varsity traveled to the North Stars gym to compete against the U-32 teams. All of the gymnasts were excited about the opportunity to compete on a spring floor, a rare commodity.

The varsity team did very well, achieving their new high score of 107. All week the girls have been practicing new vaults, focusing on powerful runs. Their hard work was apparent, when many girls matched some of their highest scores. Bryn Keenhold got a new highest score of 8.3, tying for second. Kim Francis’s new run helped her fly over the vault.

The girls competing on bars have been working new moves all week. With these newly added moves, their bar routines accumulated much higher scores. Jenna Miller, Brook Sargeant and Stephanie Deyette all received their highest scores for this year by far.

On beam, Keenhold stole first for the meet, with a score of 7.8. Miller also did well, receiving a 7.05. Although the other routines weren’t as strong, the gymnasts all fought hard to stay on the beam.

Floor was full of newly acquired flips, which all of the girls had been working towards for weeks. Sam McPhetres got her highest score this season, by competing two back tucks and a front tuck. Francis also achieved her highest score on floor. The meet was strong and full of exciting new moves that the gymnasts had worked hard for. Varsity will be competing again in a tri-meet against Milton and Essex on Wednesday at the Essex High School.
