RUHS Wrestlers Fare Well By Betsy Simpson On Friday and Saturday the 18th and 19th of January , the Randolph wrestlers went to the Essex Classic. Maxfield Finishes Fifth David Maxfield started off wrestling Mike Spizzuoco of Deering. Maxfield pinned him in the first period with a pin time of 1:10. Maxfield then wrestled Mark Richardson of Noble. Maxfield was unfortunately pinned in the second period. Maxfield went on to wrestle Iain Axworthy of Essex and pinned him in 2:33 in the second period. Maxfield also wrestled Tomas Cohen of St. Johnsbury, and won by points, 7-6. Maxfield went on to wrestle Justin Raymond of Mt. Mansfield. Maxfield got pinned in the second period but still went on to wrestle Tanner Richardson of Ogdensburg. Maxfield won from a disqualification of Richardson; Richardson hit Maxfield in the side of the head. This gave Maxfield a fifth place finish in the tournament for the 135-weight class. Taylor Holt started off with a pigtail match, meaning if he lost he would be out of the tournament. Holt’s pigtail match was against Troy Mullins of Harwood, and Holt won with a pin in the first period with time of 0:56. Holt moved on to wrestle Tim Simmons of Champlain Valley Union. Holt had a pin in 3:25 in the second period. Holt next wrestled Jedd Mason of Whitehall, and lost to a pin in the first period. Holt wrestled Nick Teneyck of Ogdensburg next and lost to a pin in the second period. Steven Bent started off his day wrestling Jason Barriault of Deering. Bent was unfortunately pinned in the second period. Bent went on to wrestle Cory Rivers of Beekmantown. Bent lost to a pin in the third period. Simpson Gets a Third Matt Simpson opened his day with a match versus Kean Jahanbakhsh of Beekmantown. Simpson pinned him in 2:47 in the second period. Simpson then wrestled Seth Welch of Fair Haven and pinned him in 3:25 in the second period. Simpson moved on to wrestle Nick Spaulding of Massebesic. Simpson unfortunately lost by points, 8-4. Simpson moved on and wrestled Alex Gendurau of Vergennes. Simpson won by points, 4-0. Simpson’s last match was against Mike McNamara of Lisbon. Simpson won 4-1, earning him third place in the tournament, in the 125-weight class. Nathan Bacon wrestled Troy Cunningham of Ogdensburg. Bacon lost in the first period to a pin. Bacon then wrestled Dan Infurna of Fair Haven and lost 17-4. The wrestlers will be at Mt. Greylock Saturday. Mt. Abe On Thursday, Jan. 10, the Randolph wrestlers went to Mt. Abe for a meet. Colchester was also there. Randolph wrestled Colchester first. Bent was first to wrestle, since Maxfield and Holt both had forfeits. Bent wrestled Logan Young and won by points, 14-0. Simpson was next and wrestled Brandon Brill, winning by points, 9-0. Next Bacon wrestled Travis Grant. Bacon lost to a pin in the first period. After finishing with Colchester, Randolph wrestled Mt. Abe. Maxfield wrestled Matt Hunter and pinned him in the first period with a tie of 1:54. Holt wrestled Andrew Spooner and pinned him in the first period with a time of 0:48. Bent wrestled Dana Kamecik. Bent was pinned in the first period. Bacon wrestled Synjin Moultroup and lost to a tech pin in the second period. Simpson had a forfeit against Mt. Abe. ____________ |
