Shootout Threatened
Stockbridge Man Arrested

Route 100 in Stockbridge was closed for 40 minutes Tuesday morning as state police responded in force to a report of a domestic assault and of an armed man inside the residence who allegedly intended to shoot at troopers.

The incident concluded—without shots being fired—when troopers took Clarence Hollis, 41, of Stockbridge, into custody on charges of domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

The response began at 8:45 a.m. on January 29, when the mother of Hollis’s girlfriend reported that he had hit and choked her daughter the prior night and again that morning.

The caller reported that Hollis had guns in the residence, and that he "would shoot the troopers" if police responded, according to a release from the Royalton barracks. The couple’s children were home at the time, police said.

Hollis continued to make threats of a shoot-out during several phone calls to the residence, police said .

Police said Hollis eventually agreed to leave the house and turn himself over to troopers. He would not follow verbal commands and was taken into custody.

He was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility for lack of $2500 bail, pending arraignment on the charges January 30, in Windsor District Court.

Officers responding included Sr. Tprs. Barb Zonay, and Mark Harvey, Tpr. Rich Slusser, Cpl Chris Power, and Game Warden Keith Gallant.
