SoRo Girls Keep It Close
By Jane Manby

The Lady Royals (now 9-4) have added two Ws to their record, beating Thetford in overtime last Thursday and Blue Mountain on Tuesday.

The Lady Royals were leading Thetford at the half by three, and came out in the third period with what their coaches called, "some of the best defense they've played all year. That's what it's supposed to look like." Thetford was held to only three points that quarter, but came back in the 4th with 19 points to tie it up 35-35 going into OT.

At the end of the four minutes the Lady Royals proved victorious, 46-42. Shanna Duffy had 18 points and point guard Megan Whitcomb had 14 (4 in overtime).

Thetford's high scorers were Caitlin Roberts with 16 points (5 in overtime), and Holly Buttrey had 10.

In the Royals' game vs. Blue Mountain they were tied at the end of the first quarter 8-8, but scored 17 points in the second and were up by four at halftime. Outscoring BMU by 10 points in the third they had a comfortable lead heading into the last quarter of play.

But again the Royals struggled in the fourth quarter and Blue Mountain scored 21 points to end it at a close 47-46. Sophomores Duffy and Whitcomb were SoRo's high scores again with 15 points each. Katelyn Robinson of Blue Mountain had 14 points.

The Royals play in Rivendell today, and at Chelsea on Saturday.
