Chandler Announces Auditions The Chandler Center for the Arts has announced auditions for its 10th annual Fourth of July youth musical, which this year will be the perennially popular "The Sound of Music." Auditions for leading roles, including the Von Trapp children and the "adult" roles, will be held on Sunday, March 9, at Chandler. Those auditioning for all lead roles will need to prepare material in advance. Audition packets can be requested by calling producer Betsy Cantlin at 728-9878 before March 5. A small audition fee will be charged. Auditions for chorus parts, both elementary and high school, will be held Sunday, March 30. These will be less strenuous, but it is important to call and reserve your audition slot. Actual full-scale rehearsals will not begin until school ends in June, but having auditions in March allows students to make the best choices for their summer plans. Traditionally, the Chandler summer show has highlighted the talents of high school students from the Upper Valley and central Vermont, a number of whom have gone on to advanced academic training and careers in theater. The production staff includes artistic director Charlie McMeekin, who brings 30 years of experience; Marjorie Drysdale as music director, who is known throughout Vermont for her singing and conducting career; and Kimberly Nowlan, a dance major from Mt. Holyoke and regular dancer for the Lyric Theater. In Chandler’s last production of "The Sound of Music," Drysdale appeared as Maria von Trapp, while Nowlan appeared as Gretl, the youngest von Trapp! ____________ |
