Novelist Ernest Hebert Speaks
In Tunbridge February 21

Award-winning novelist Ernest Hebert will speak at the Tunbridge Library Winter Evenings Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. He describes his talk, "What Does It Mean to Be an American?" as an inquiry into American identity as seen through his historical novel, "The Old American."

A New Hampshire native, Hebert is a tenured professor of English and creative writing at Dartmouth College. He is also the author of 10 published books, including the six-novel Darby series, and a cyber-punk novel, "Mad Boys." Last summer, he published "New Hampshire Patterns," a book of personal essays with accompanying photographs by Jon Gilbert Fox.

The New England Booksellers Association named Hebert its Fiction Author of the Year in 2006. His "Spoonwood" received the 2005 Independent Publisher Book Award as best regional novel in the Northeast. The Sarah Josepha Hale Award for lifetime achievement by a New England author was awarded to Hebert in 2002.

A book signing and refreshments will follow the free program. For information about the "Winter Evenings" series call 889-9404.
