Pick Up the Pace

The Randolph Lady Ghosts basketball team faced Lamoille on Thursday, for the final home game of the season and senior night. The previous time the two teams played, Randolph fell to the Lancers by 39 points. The Ghosts opened the night with each junior saying a little something about the seniors, a longstanding tradition.

Randolph won the tip, and quickly passed the ball down the court for a quick score by Andrea Chase. This offensive rhythm continued throughout the first quarter. On the defensive end the Ghosts also came on very strong, forcing some bad passes and coming up with a few steals. Lamoille didn’t score until 3:40, Randolph led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was even better for Randolph. The Lady Ghosts ran a strong 1-3-1 defense, clogging the middle and not allowing Lamoille to dribble through the defense. On the offensive end they controlled the boards and got all their second quarter points from right under the basket, using their height to their advantage. The Ghosts went into halftime ahead 26-18.

Randolph was much slower in the third quarter; they only made one shot from the floor, and scored the majority of their third quarter points from the charity stripe. They had four steals in the third quarter but Lamoille picked up the offensive pressure and scored 22 points. The Ghosts were getting frustrated over the calls from the officials, and that frustration was evident on their faces and in the words of Coach Aiden West, who received a technical foul at the 6:13 mark. Randolph came out of the third quarter with an 8-point deficit, 40-32.

In the fourth Randolph stepped up the offense, but began to slow on defense. Lamoille scored 14 points to Randolph’s 13 fourth quarter points. The Ghosts lost, in a really great game, 54-45. Although they lost, the Randolph seniors were very happy with their final home game of their high school careers. Scoring in the game was Gwen Reis with 22, Javon Miller with 7, Shayne Reis with 6, Lyndsay Smith with 5, Andrea Chase and Amanda Bowen with 2 each, and Arielle Connolly with 1.

The Ghosts finish up the season on Friday at Mt. Abe and then Tuesday at Lyndon.
