Three Victories
For Royal Ladies
By Jane Manby

The Lady Royals played Hazen last Thursday, Rochester on Monday, and against Whitcomb Tuesday. SoRo won all three games.

After a long bus ride all the way up to Hardwick, it took the girls some time to warm up, only scoring five points to Hazen's four in the first quarter. The game was low scoring all around, but the Royals were up at the half 15-12.

After their captains talked to them at halftime, the SoRo girls came out fighting but were outscored in the third quarter. The Royals were down 30-26 going into the fourth.

The Lady Royals’ defense held Hazen to only five points in the fourth, and they were able to take it into overtime, tied 35-35 at the end of regulation. In the end the Royals beat out the Wildcats 45-40.

Royals' Callie Jozefiak had 22 points, including four three's for the night. Angie Mayo the was high scorer for Hazen with 12 points, teammate Emma Simmons had 11.

Win over Rockettes

The win gave the Royals momentum heading into their last regular season away game vs. Rochester.

The Royals and the Rockets started out tied, 10-10, at the end of the first quarter. South Royalton started to pull away, outscoring Rochester by seven in the second to make it a 25-18 edge at halftime.

The second half was a fight with strong defense and some excellent offensive movement from both teams, but South Royalton proved victorious. The final score was 59-48. Jozefiak had another high scoring game with 23, and Rochester's Sam Mishkit had 15, alongside teammate Caitlin Cutting, who had 13.

Win over Whitcomb

The final score of 49-32, South Royalton over Whitcomb, could be misleading. Despite the absence of Whitcomb senior Molly Taylor, the Hornets really made the Royals work for everything they got.

Off to a good start, the Royals were up 16-6 at the end of the first quarter, but were losing at the half, 23-22, due to the leadership of Whitcomb's Laurel Adams and Demi Aldrighetti.

The Royals pulled away in the second half, holding the Hornets to three points in the third quarter. SoRo's Senior Captain Jozefiak had another 23-point game, teammate Logan Russell had 11, Whitcomb's Adams scored 14 for the night, and Aldrighetti had 9.

The Royals play Rivendell at home today and their Senior Night is next Tuesday vs. The Sharon Academy.
