RUHS Girls Win Over Lyndon
By Hannah Becker

The Randolph Lady Ghosts played their final two games of the season this past week, finishing with a loss at Mt. Abe, 48-37, and a win at Lyndon.

Loss at Mt. Abe

The Lady Ghosts took the long trip to Mt. Abe on Thursday. The Ghosts started off the first quarter very well, winning the opening tip, and scoring quickly. The Ladies fell into a 1-3-1 defense clogging the middle and keeping the Eagles from driving the lane. The Ghosts kept up the offense pressure and had good ball rotation, which led to a 15-12 Randolph lead.

The second quarter was much worse for Randolph, specifically the last 54 seconds, where Mt. Abe scored seven points, while the Ghosts scored only six points in the entire quarter. Randolph had seven turnovers and horrible rebounding, and went just 0-3 from the charity stripe. Mt. Abe made up all the ground, and then some, leading at the half 28-21.

Randolph fought to make up lost ground, with much better boxing out and rebounding and fewer turnovers. They did all this while still maintaining defensive and offensive pressure. At the end of the third Randolph was down by only three, 34-31.

The fourth quarter didn't carry the fairy tale ending that Randolph was hoping for. The Ghosts only scored six points in the final eight minutes, while the Eagles stepped up and made some key three pointers. Randolph couldn't pull out the win and fell to Mt. Abe 48-37.

Scoring in the game were, Gwen Reis with 18, Shayne Reis with 2, Ashley Chase with 5, Arielle Connolly with 2, Lyndsay Smith with 4, and Javon Miller with 6.

Win at Lyndon

The Ghosts traveled to Lyndon on Tuesday to face the Vikings, and a tough home crowd. It was the Lyndon senior night, which Randolph saw as a distraction for the home team, and took advantage of early.

The Ghosts came out strong with a 1-3-1 defense and closed out well on Lyndon's shooters. On offense the Ghosts spread the court and drove down the middle, making the Viking defense work hard to stop them. It was a great opening quarter, with the game tied at 12 apiece.

The second quarter wasn't as strong for Randolph, their shooting was really off, going only 3 for 16 from the floor. The Ghosts also tried to mix things up a bit on defense and keep Lyndon on their toes, but when that didn't work, Randolph went back to their 1-3-1 zone, and took control of the game again. At the end of the half Randolph was down just five, 26-21

Going into half time the Ghosts knew that it was their game to win. They came out energized and had a great third quarter. Randolph, didn't completely dig out of their hole, but they made up some much needed ground. The Ghosts played strong defense and didn't allow Lyndon to transition quickly. There was always a Ghost defender in the back court to stop the Vikings.

On the offensive end, Randolph worked the ball around, and found the open man on the inside, leading to easy lay-ups. Randolph was down just two after three quarters.

The fourth quarter Randolp got ahead and forced Lyndon to foul. This gave Randolph a shot to win it on the line., and that's exactly what the Ghosts did. The Ghosts were 7-11 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Randolph scored their goal of 50 points, and walked away with a win, in their final regular season game.

Scoring in the game were G. Reis with 18, Miller with 12, S. Reis with 8, Ashley Chase with 6, and Connolly, Amanda Bowen and Hannah Becker with two each.

Randolph will find out who they face in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, and will play either next Tuesday or Wednesday.
