Mary A. Barrett

SHARON—Mary A. Barrett, 79, died Saturday at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 17, 1928 in Lebanon, N.H., a daughter of Edgar J. and Ida (Napsey) Carpenter. She attended Hartford High School. On December 29, 1949, she married Paul A. Barrett in Bethel, and had lived in Sharon since then.

She worked as a telephone operator in West Hartford for New England Telephone and Telegraph until starting a family. After her family was grown, she began working in central supply at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H., until retiring. Her husband died July 4, 2003.

She loved being at home with her family and especially enjoyed playing cards, gardening and being with her dog, Foxy.

Survivors include her three daughters: Rae Barrett and Pauline Barrett, both of Sharon; and Bonnie Barrett of Waterboro, Maine; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Leskiewicz; and three brothers: Edgar, Howard and John Carpenter.

A graveside service will be held in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Sharon in the spring. Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. is in charge of the arrangements.
