Area Hockey Report

Alex Green, a sophomore at RUHS, who plays hockey on the Northfield Marauders HS hockey team, was chosen to the Vermont Select 17 Team. Alex and his teammates will represent Vermont on The Yankee Conference (New England District) Festival Team. The Festival will be held the weekend of March 28-30, 2008 in Rhode Island. The Vermont team will compete against teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. The players are chosen for the team following a 2-day tryout.

Mite Team

The Northfield Northstars Mite Team (Age 7-8) recently competed in two end-of-season tournaments. The Northstars are led in goal by Randolph resident Riley Corey. Their head coach is Paul Clayton, who is also the HS Varsity Hockey coach. The first event was The Ike Lee Invitational Tournament, hosted by the BYSA in Barre at the BOR rink on Feb. 22-24. 

They put in a strong team effort in each game, particularly against a team from Nashua, NH. The boys won two games and lost two games. An outstanding player was chosen for each game, and they were Jackson Clayton, Ethan Hatch, Garrett Bean, and Riley Corey.

The second event was the first annual Mites Jamboree at Kreitzberg Arena on March 2. The Northstars again worked hard as a team and made it to the Championship game. They placed second, losing to Lebanon.
