Article Was
Poorly Placed

At my first town meeting in Randolph over 25 years ago, when all budget items were voted on the floor, and I had never heard the term "Australian ballot," a local gentleman got up and announced, after many big budget items were passed, "Some of you might have an attack of diarrhea when you get your next tax bill."

Since then, we have gotten used to OKing many thousands of dollars in the course of keeping our town functioning. Unfortunately, the placing of Article 7 in with other capital expenses at the recent Town Meeting made it too easy for voters, trying to complete many ballots, to OK item 7 without realizing that it involved moving the municipal offices to Pleasant Street. (The original vote indicated a majority wanted to keep things as they were.)

Failure to clear up any lingering confusion on this issue may not cause illness but it could be a source of regret in the future.
