Walter C. McCreedy SOUTH BURLINGTON—Walter C. McCreedy, a longtime resident of South Burlington, passed away March 16, 2008 after battling a number of medical complications following surgery in July, 2007. He was born in Randolph, June 4, 1926, the son of the late Charles and Helen (Ruehmer) McCreedy of Brookfield. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces on December 22, 1943 and served from September, 1944 to June, 1946. He married Patricia Ann Londry of South Barre, June 21, 1958. He worked as a State Liquor Inspector for the Vermont Department of Liquor Control for 32 years, retiring in December, 1990. He was a Chittenden County Deputy Sheriff from 1963 to 1983. He is survived by his four children, son Robert and his wife Claudia (Flint) and grandchildren Andrew and Gillian of Atlanta, Ga., and granddaughter Erin of South Burlington; daughter Helen and granddaughter Hannah of Waltham, Mass.; son William and granddaughter Molly of South Barre; and daughter Heather of South Burlington. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Gladys Perantoni of South Barre; and his four nieces and their families. He was predeceased by his wife September 1, 2001. Before his illness, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, feeding birds and squirrels in his backyard, reading, going to gun shows and garage sales, mall walking, and woodworking during retirement. He had been an avid trapper. He enjoyed getting together with former classmates from high school, former work colleagues, and friends. He also enjoyed working at the polls in South Burlington. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in South Burlington and also a 55-year member of the Mystic Star Phoenix Lodge #97. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 22, at noon in the Faith United Methodist Church, 899 Dorset Street, South Burlington, with reception following. Interment will be held later in the spring at Wilson Cemetery in Graniteville. Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 21, 4-7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Pearl Street, Burlington, Vt., 05401 or to the Vermont Cancer Center, 89 Beaumont Avenue, Given E213, Burlington, Vt., 05405.
