Another Big Race

Liz Stephen of East Montpelier, the niece of Sandy Stephen of Brainstorm Road in Braintree, has served notice that the national skiing championship she won last year wasn’t a fluke.

Skiing for the U. S. Cross Country Ski Team, Stephen won another national championship racing in Fairbanks, Alaska Friday.

She swept to victory by almost a full minute in a 15-kilometer "pursuit race," half of which required classic skiing technique and half freestyle (skating-style) technique.

Just a week ago, the 21-year-old had won a race at the Canadian Nationals, and last month she won the bronze medal in a 15K freestyle race in Italy.
