East Central Vermont Community Fibernet (ECFiber) finally exists as a legal entity. Its board of directors held a first meeting Tuesday night in Tunbridge and received signed "interlocal contracts" from about half the 25 towns expected to sign up.

Having those contracts in hand made ECFiber a legal entity in the eyes of the state, according to Tim Nulty, project director. Elected interim chair was Loredo Sola of Pomfret, who has been in charge of communicating with selectboards. Interim vice chair is Andy Hooper of Montpelier. Both positions are "interim" because they were voted on by only about half the towns expected to join.

The other towns wanted changes the wording of the interlocal contract, according to Nulty. All of the problems seemed minor, he said, and he expects that 25 towns will be on board by the time of the April 21 meeting. At that time a secretary, treasurer, and executive board will be elected as well.

Present at Tuesday’s meeting were delegates and alternates from most of the 25 towns, Nulty, and Atty. Paul Giuliani, who drafted the contract.
