Bruce A. Younger

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MASS.—Bruce Arthur Younger, 58, died April 16, 2008, in Orange, after a brief illness.

He was born in Marblehead, Mass. July 16, 1948. He was a longtime resident of Edgartown on the Vineyard. He worked as a carpenter, painter and most recently as a charter fisherman. His love for the ocean was well known and he said that his greatest accomplishment in life was his daughter Bennett.

He was predeceased by his parents, Deborah Fowler Younger and Paul O. Younger; a sister, Lynne D. Harries; and a brother, Jonathan P. Younger.

Survivors include his daughter, Summer Bennett McPhetres, and her mother, Cynthia McPhetres, both of Rochester; three sisters, Diane Dean of North Carolina, Grace Leger of Orange, Mass. and Jodi Ann McNamara of Metheun, Mass.; three brothers, Daniel Bennett of Beverly, Mass., Nathaniel Bennett of Searsmont, Maine, and Jefferson Bennett of Rhode Island; step-mother, Phyllis Dukes of Rhode Island; and many nieces and nephews, including Rachel Salamone of New Hampshire, and Ethan Oyer of South Boston, Mass.

There are no calling hours and the "pirate" will set sail on his final journey from Martha’s Vineyard at a date and time to be determined by family and close friends. Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, Mass. is directing the arrangements.

In his final days, he was assisted by Hospice of Franklin County (48 Sanderson St. Greenfield, Mass. 01301) and Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester, Mass. 01069-2508) and the family suggests contributions be made in his name to either organization. There is also an account set up for his daughter, "In trust for" Bennett McPhetres, Randolph National Bank, P.O. Box 177, Rochester, Vt. 05767.
