Quarry Permit Decision
Will Be Released Soon
By Sandy Vondrasek
The Randolph Development Review Board has finalized its written decision on a proposed rock extraction quarry off Ridge Road, but its contents won’t be released until later today or tomorrow, May 9.

Release will occur after all members of the DRB have signed the document, according to Zoning Administrator Mardee Sanchez. The DRB, which held another deliberative session last Tuesday on the application from Sprague Farms, LLC for a 17-acre ledge extraction quarry, has until Friday to issue its decision.

Earlier this year, the DRB held three well-attended public hearings on the application, which has been ardently opposed by neighbors.

The public hearing portion of the review was closed March 29, and the DRB has 45 days from that point to issue its decision.

The project, in the RU5 (rural use, five-acre minimum) district, needs three permits from the town: Local Act 250, site plan, and use approval. The quarry would also need permits from the state, including its Act 250 criteria and several water permits.

April Hearing

At its April 29 hearing, DRB members approved two new applications, one for the expansion of Village Auto & Tire, and the other a four-lot subdivision on Hebard Hill Road.

James Lumbra was given conditional use and site plan approval to add car sales to his Prince Street auto-repair business, in the commercial district.

Lumbra told The Herald this week he hopes to start up car sales in a month or two, once local and state paperwork is complete. He plans to offer "decent, not late-late model cars, in the four-to-five-year-old range."

Nathan and Victoria Schiller were granted subdivision approval for four lots at 1410 Hebard Hill Road, in the RU5 district.
