RUHS Baseball
Improves to 6-2
By David Maxfield

With many games being played in such a short period of time, the Randolph boys’ baseball team won four of their last five games, improving their record to 6-2.

Loss at Lyndon

The Guy Ghosts traveled to Lyndon last Saturday and right off the bus they had two tests for them. One was the freezing temperatures and the second was a pitcher who threw the ball just a little too hard for the boys to handle. After the Lyndon pitcher struck out 16 batters, the boys had little chance, posting a one-hitter and that was all. David Maxfield got the lone hit in the top of the sixth. Teammate Kyle Connolly went four innings on the mound being relieved by teammate Nik Bent. The boys gave up 11 runs in the 11-0 rout.

Win at Oxbow

The boys tallied up seven runs in the top of the second inning on their way to an 11-1 victory over Oxbow on Monday. Hits came from Maxfield, Thomas Jacobs, Jon White, Bent and Damon Dyer. White went all seven innings, only allowing one earned run.

Win vs. Northfield

Capped of by a day of mistakes and errors, the boys baseball team pulled one out in extra innings over Northfield Wednesday. Dustin Brassard got a double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning and Maxfield drove him in with a game winning double.

Sam Dyer started the day on the mound but was relieved in the fourth inning by teammate Bent who finished out the game not allowing a single run after that giving the boys a 6-5 win.

Sweep at Montpelier

With both RUHS girls softball teams already having won two against Montpelier, and RUHS girls’ lacrosse beating Montpelier as well, the boys’ baseball team completed the day’s sweep of Montpelier.

The first game was a high scoring affair for Randolph, as they put 11 runs through seven innings. The boys started their afternoon with an 11-1 win. Big hits included Bent’s triple and Maxfield’s homer. Maxfield went all seven innings from the mound, allowing only one run.

Game two was a lot closer because of errors in the field. Once again, the RUHS boys came back and won the game in the bottom of the eighth. A game-winning single by Justin Messier scored Brassard to key a 6-5 victory. Jacobs and Maxfield each had three doubles and a triple between them, helping to propel the Ghosts to a victory at night.
