RUHS Girls Lax Collects 4 Wins By Sarah Kresock Due to a late start in the season, the RUHS girls lacrosse team has been packed tightly with games. Last Thursday, they played Rice in South Burlington; on Saturday they played away in Montpelier. On Monday, Randolph faced Montpelier at home, and on Tuesday they played away against Lamoille. The team worked well together and won all four, which now brings them to a 7-2 record. Away Vs. Rice With a final score of 9-4, the Ghosts had a strong win. The first two goals of the game were scored by Randolph’s Erika Smith and Heather Surprenant. Rice scored but Amanda Bowen matched the goal, giving Randolph a two-goal lead. Towards the end of the first half, Rice came up with two more goals, bringing the score at half-time to a 3-3 tie. In the second half, Smith had two additional goals., Abby Peltier found the back of the net for two, and Megan Reymore and Jenna Miller both added one. Sarah Kresock led the assists, having four throughout the game, while goalie Erica Weber had five saves. Away Vs. Montpelier Randolph started out slightly weak in the first half of the game vs. Montpelier. Peltier and Maia Binhammer accounted for the only two goals in the first half, whereas Montpelier had four. In the second half, the Ghosts really showed their potential. Surprenant had four goals, Peltier had another two, and Reymore, Emiline Pelletier, and Kresock all contributed one. Assists were led by Kresock with four. Weber had 10 saves, and with her great effort as well as an amazingly strong defensive half, the Solons were shut out in the second half. The girls really showed what they are capable of, with the 11-4 win. Home Vs. Montpelier Two days later the Ghosts were up against the Solons once again in the first home game of the season. Bowen started the team off well in the first half with three goals and one assist. Smith and Kresock also had two in the first half, and Surprenant had one. Montpelier was able to find the back of the net for only two goals in the first half, making the score 8-2 at half time. The team showed Montpelier that it can play a strong first half. In the second half, Bowen Surprenant, and Kresock each had another goal, and Lacy Dezan and Jenna Miller both helped out by adding one each. Montpelier scored another two in the second. Goalie Erica Weber had to total saves. Assists were widely spread out, showing that everyone contributed to the win. One goal even came from defender Bridget Hardy. The final score was 13-4. Away Vs. Montpelier The Ghosts showed they where a little tired from the busy schedule in this game, but still pulled through a 10-8 win against the Lamoille Lancers. Goals were scored by Kresock with two, Peltier with three, Smith with two, Bowen with two, and Surprenant with one. Kresock had three assists, and defender Hannah Scott provided an assist as well. Weber had a great game with an astonishing 13 saves. Nice job, ladies. ____________ |
