Gets 3 More Wins

The Royals improved to 8-1 on the year with three wins last week. The SoRo boys traveled to Rivendell last Saturday to duke it out with the Raptors in a dogfight.

In the top of the first, the Royals got on the scoreboard with a hit by the pitch on Devin Cilley. Tyrell Manning lined a pitch to left center field that scored Cilley. Tyler Manning got through the first inning on the mound easily with two groundouts and a fly out, all on eight pitches.

The Royals grabbed another run in the second inning with a single by Jack Howe. Cody Welch hit a line drive to the shortstop that had two errors on the play, and scored Howe. Tyler Manning had another solid inning in the second with three groundouts on 12 pitches.

Tyler Manning continued to dominate the Raptors in the third with two fly outs and a ground out. Once again, Tyler Manning only used a small amount of pitches with 10 this time. The Royals got one more run in the fourth. Howe started things up by getting hit by a pitch. Welch singled to center field, and Zach Colburn flew out to the first baseman and drove Howe in from third. After four innings, the Royals had a 3-0 lead.

A single by Rivendell started things off in the fifth, breaking up Tyler Manning's perfect game. A couple singles later scored the first Rivendell run of the game.

The Royals got two more runs in the sixth to increase their lead. Howe doubled down the left field line, and Welch got walked to put runners on first and second. After a past ball to move Welch and Howe up a base, Colburn flew out to center and scored Howe. Tyler Manning hit a line drive that found its way to center field and scored Welch. After six innings, the Royals were leading 5-1.

Tyrell Manning came in to relieve his cousin Tyler. Tyrell Manning got a quick ground out to start off the seventh, but then gave up a single and a walk, to put runners on first and second. After a fly out to center field for the second out, Rivendell rallied with a fly ball that found its way to the fence to score two. The rally was not enough for Rivendell, as the Royals came away with a 5-3 victory.

Win vs. Peoples

Last Thursday the Royals were in the midst of another long battle. The Royals hosted the Wolves of Peoples Academy.

Dustin Parker got the start for the Royals. Offensively, Tyler Manning started the game off for the Royals with a single to left, stole second on the next pitch, and then stole home and scored.

Tyler Manning started the rally again in the third with two outs, with a single to right center. Devin Cilley doubled to right center and scored Manning. After three innings of play the Royals had a very small lead of 2-0.

Parker gave up a double to start the sixth. The next batter sacrifice bunted back at Parker, and after an intentional walk to put runners on the corners, Parker got out of a huge jam with a double play that started with a ground to Cilley at second, flip to Miles Ellis at shortstop, then on to Welch at first.

Parker struck out six batters and gave up five hits, in the 2-0 win.

Win vs. Whitcomb

Last Tuesday, the Royals hosted the Whitcomb Hornets, with Tyler Manning pitching This game was a pitchers’ duel in the early going with Manning and Ryan Litchfield of Whitcomb facing off.

Manning helped his own cause in the bottom of the first with a single to center field. Cilley bunted Manning over to second, and on the next pitch, Manning stole third. Ellis drove him in by grounding out to the shortstop.

Whitcomb tied the game 1-1, with a double that hit the center field fence.

Manning struck out the side in the fourth inning. The Royals rallied in their half of the fourth to retake the lead. Ellis started things off with a double. Parker singled to move Ellis to third, and Parker stole second on the next pitch. With one out, Clark singled to center to score Ellis. Four pitches later, Parker scored on a past ball. After four innings, the Royals had taken the lead again 3-1.

The Royals rallied big in the fifth inning. Cilley started the rally with a single. Parker and Howe both walked and Cilley scored two pitches later on a past ball. Clark singled to center field, which allowed Parker to score easily. Welch and Richard Densmore got hit by pitches, and Zach Colburn doubled to center, clearing the bases for three RBI's. After five innings, the Royals were running away with a 9-1 lead.

The Royals added two more runs in the sixth with a single by Cilley, and an Ellis triple. Welch came in to pitch in the seventh and shut the door on Whitcomb. The Royals won the battle 11-1.

The Royals travel to Stowe for a double header Saturday May, 17. The first game is at 10 a.m.
