Sharon Girls 50/50
By Jeanelle Achee

The Sharon Academy varsity girls soccer team has been busy these past weeks. The first game against Blue Mountain was a well-fought victory, 2-1 with Anna Fisher-Byrne with a goal and Lydia Wood with a closing second.

The Phoenix fought hard to win against Blue Mountain because that was the team that they lost to last season in their play off game, all because of a ricochet off a referee’s rear into the goal, causing them to lose in overtime.

This victory was twice as sweet, because the team's goalie, Josephine Adamski shut down 13 shots by Blue Mountain and only let one pass through by #7 Nicole Laroque.

Loss to Black River

Later in the week the team had a rough match-up against the Division III Champions from last year (who recently moved down to Division IV), Black River. With half of Sharon’s team sick or injured, the Sharon girls knew the odds were tough. Even with some fantastic playing by the forwards and defense, the Sharon girls suffered a defeat of 6-0 against Black River. Black River has the highest scorer in the league; she scored her 100th goal in a recent game against Chelsea.
