Two Men Jailed Troopers Called to Homes In Chelsea, Randolph Center

Five state troopers, along with a K-9 police dog, converged in Chelsea village just after midnight on Sunday, June 4, in response to report of a man firing a handgun and "threatening that somebody was going to be hurt," according to state police.

A brief standoff ensued, say police, when Robert Henry Button, 42, of Main Street, Chelsea, refused to leave his residence.

Police say Button eventually agreed to come out and meet with police, after "he was reasoned with via telephone."

Button was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment, and noise in the nighttime, and lodged at Woodstock Correctional Center, according to a release from state police in Bethel. Troopers from the Middlesex barracks also responded to the scene.

Domestic Assault

Last Friday, three troopers responded to a dispute at a Randolph Center residence on Davis Road that resulted in arrest, multiple charges, and temporary lodging in jail for Eugene E. Walden, 37, of Randolph.

Walden, say police, "retreated to the second floor of a rough structure" and began to throw out boards, a saw horse, and other items, when troopers arrived at the residence of 81-year-old Paul Chatfield, at about 5 p.m., June 2.

Earlier, Walden had been cutting the structure with a chain saw and had attempted to set it on fire, police allege.

Walden eventually agreed to come down, and was taken into custody, police say. After investigation, he was charged with domestic assault, disorderly conduct, unlawful mischief, and drunken driving. Walden was handcuffed at the barracks, after a struggle with police there. He was lodged in jail for lack of bail.

DWI Charged

Sgt. Jocelyn Stohl, who remained at the Chatfield residence after Walden was taken away, was there when his brother, Steve Walden, 34, arrived.

Stohl, recognizing that younger Walden was also under the influence, reported this week that she started to arrest him for DWI. Walden resisted, however, said Stohl, and was cited for resisting an officer, as well as for drunken driving.
