Antique Weathervanes Stolen in Route 110 Area Antique Weathervanes Stolen in Route 110 Area The antique weathervanes on the roof of historical barns are not only unique to each farm but represent considerable value, and someone is out carefully planning to steal them. The large iron cow was stolen off the weathervane at the top of our family's five-story barn at Needles Eye Farm on route 110 in Tunbridge, sometime over the weekend of July 10-11, or likely the evening of Monday July 12th. Evidence being investigated by the Vermont State Police suggests that an attempt was made to steal the antique iron cow weathervane off the "twin" barn next door at Sylvester P. Howe farm, but was unsuccessful. The theft of the cow off the Walter K Howe barn was discovered Tuesday morning when ladders were found still leaning on the barns. Homemade replicas of both weathervanes were found on site, as if to replace the originals so that no one would notice. Owners of the farms, Merle Howe of Tunbridge, and Gary Howe of Randolph, are working with police to track down the thieves. This violation of historical personal property has been very upsetting to the family members, including Grace and Ralph Howe, and Ethel Howe at Needles Eye Farm. If anyone has any information about this, or may have seen a truck or anyone with ladders during these days, please contact the Vermont State Police or call Gary Howe at 728-9350. And keep an eye on your own weathervane! By Gus Howe Johnson |
