Spaghetti Supper Raised $1700

Spaghetti Supper Raised $1700

The Braintree Historical Society wants to thank Amy Hook-Therrien for the wonderful spaghetti dinner held at the Braintree Town Hall last Saturday, March 18. Amy with the help of her mentor, Doug Bent, her mother, Shirley Hook-Therrien and her father Robert Therrien, organized and held this dinner to benefit the restoration and preservation of the Braintree Hill Meetinghouse.

The dinner, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and donations resulted in Amy presenting over $1700 to the Historical Society.

The Braintree Historical Society is grateful to and proud of this altruistic young lady who took on this project as an independent study at the high school with the goal to do something for her community. The Society is also grateful to those who helped Amy in this endeavor and those who donated food, goods, prizes and donations.

The Society has had a preservation assessment done of what is needed to repair, restore and preserve the meetinghouse for the future. The assessment has determined that the building is in very good condition for its age. It estimates that $156,000 will be needed to correct some very serious drainage problems, brick repair and roof repair before any cosmetic care will be done. The Meetinghouse is known statewide for its spectacular site and is a great asset to our community. The Society wants to preserve it for the future.

Amy’s spaghetti dinner was a great "kick-off" for Braintree Historical Society’s fund raising efforts just beginning.
