SOUTH ROYALTON—Gordon P. Green, 88, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction.

He was born May 4, 1918, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Arthur and Gertrude (Thompson) Green. His family moved to Vermont when he was four years old, and he attended school in Bridgewater Center and Woodstock High School in Woodstock.

On July 17, 1936, he married Darthea Woods. They lived in Bridgewater for 43 years before moving to South Royalton in 1979. She died June 15, 1999.

He worked a few years for Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield as a machinist, before enlisting in the Navy during World War II, serving with the Seabees in the Pacific Theater until 1946. After his discharge, he worked a few years for Robinson’s store in Bridgewater before going back to Fellows Gear Shaper, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1980.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His true love was skiing and he skied at Gilbert’s in Pomfret, Suicide Six in Woodstock and Pico Mountain in Killington, and for several years he was the ski tow operator at Suicide Six.

He was a member of the Journey Four-Square Church in South Royalton, the Heartland Lions Club of South Royalton, V.F.W. Post #786 of Woodstock, Geno Robinson American Legion Post #11 of Bridgewater, and for many years he was in the annual Minstrel Shows as an endman in both South Royalton and Woodstock.

Survivors include three daughters: Carolyn Robinson of Woodstock, Susanne Trottier of South Royalton, and Judith Sorrentino of Mount Morris, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, three brothers, Andrew Stanley Green, Lloyd Green, and William Green; and two sisters, Mattie Kipp and Thelma Oldenburg.

There are no public calling hours. A memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, April 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Journey Four-Square Church on South Windsor Street in South Royalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Royalton Rescue Squad, in care of Corinne Ingraham, 52 Roberts Road, South Royalton, Vt., 05068.

The Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea is in charge of arrangements.
