RANDOLPH — Mary Jane Nugent, 102, died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Windover House in Randolph.

She was born August 20, 1904 in Rochester, N.Y., the daughter of Christopher and Mary (Dempsey) Nugent.

She attended Winthrop, Mass. schools and graduated from Winthrop (Mass.) High School. She continued her education at Salem (Mass.) Normal School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in education and her master’s degree from Boston University.

Following World War II, she taught the children of U.S. military personnel in Wiesvaden, Germany for a year. She later was a grade school teacher and principal in Newton, Mass. for many years. She moved to Vermont with her brother John in 1973.

She enjoyed reading and traveling. Her memberships included the Massachusetts Teacher’s Sorority, Massachusetts Retired Teachers Assn. and Saints Donatian & Rogatian Catholic Church.

Survivors include her brother, Christopher Nugent of Sarasota, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John Nugent; and her sisters Therese Nugent and Ruth Murray.

A memorial mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 9 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Winthrop, Mass. Burial was in the Winthrop Cemetery.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
