NEASC Accreditation Team Arrives at RUHS Sunday By Sandy Vondrasek Cooch Here comes a big week at Randolph Union High School. A New England Association of Schools and Colleges visitation team will be at RUHS from Sunday, April 28 to Wednesday, May 2, for the high school's 10-year accreditation review. Over that time, a team of educators from the region will assess the school, based on observations; interviews with students, staff, community and board members; and the self-study reports that the RUHS staff worked on for the past 18 months. RUHS Principal John Holmes said this week that he welcomes the scrutiny. "I like to get outside perspectives on how we are doing," he said. "I am sure I will learn things this week, and the team will too." Eight to 12 weeks after the visit, the team's initial report on the school, listing "conclusions, commendations, and recommendations" in each of the seven areas reviewed, will be delivered to Holmes. He will have 60 days to respond to the draft. A final report will then be published and made available to the public. It will probably be October or November before the report is available, Holmes said. Bond Issue Meanwhile, Holmes and RUHS board members planned to meet this week with a Dept. of Education school construction specialist, to ready a $10-million bond proposal for school repairs for a vote. Holmes said he anticipated that a bond vote timeline would be worked out at the April 25 meeting. There has been some worrisome news from Montpelier this spring, as legislators moved to enact a moratorium on state aid for school construction. However, Holmes said that Cathy Hilgendorf, the DOE specialist, told him she had "some good news from the Senate." | |||||
