'Selections' Opens Sat. At Chandler Gallery It's a tradition now at Chandler, although this year, due to Chandler's heavy centennial season of events, the Selections Show is showing up a little earlier. This Saturday, June 9 in the gallery on Main St. in Randolph, the event showcasing the six artists who got the judges' nod at last year's Local Artist Show will open with a public reception at 5 p.m. Dick Ellsworth's "Untitled," a large aspen burl bowl, was the judge's favorite in the category of First Place in Three Dimensional work, as well as for the Best in Show award. Gene Parent won the Popular Vote for his watercolor of the Brookfield floating bridge. The prize for First Place in Two Dimensional Work went to Kathrena Ravenhorst Adams, the Photography prize went to Don LaHue, and the prize for Best in Mixed-Media was awarded to Tamara Wight. The Committee's Pick prize went to Sandy Cooch for her watercolor rendition of "Randolph Coal and Oil," a new category created in 2006 by the Chandler Gallery Committee to honor work both skillfully conceived and connecting with the community at large. These six accomplished artists will be showing their newest work at the show, which runs through July 15. The Local Artists Show is a unique community event that draws from all skill sets and age groups in the Central Vermont area. The 2006 Honorable Mentions went to Melanie Phelps, R.G. Solbert and Linda Maney; Morgan Easton, Brynn Fabian, and Heather Peterson won the 2006 Student Awards. The 2006 judges were Sue Higby from Studio Place Arts in Barre, Missy Storrow from T. Wood and Artisan Hand's Galleries in Montpelier, and Becky Brettel from the V Gallery in Woodstock. |
