William H. Hall

BURLINGTON- William "Bill" H. Hall, formerly of Hancock, 83, died Tuesday evening, May 29, 2007 at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington.

He was born March 12, 1924 in Wilmington, the son of Herman O. and Hazel (Bates) Hall.

He attended Wilmington schools. Following his education, he worked as a logger and farmer on the family farm in Wilmington. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II. After his discharge from the service, he moved to the Rochester area.

He married Jessie White June 18, 1960. He worked as a machine operator at Weyerhauser in Hancock for many years and also worked on the Bagley Farm in Granville. He was an avid fisherman, liked to go bird hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was known locally as the "Choo-Choo" Man because of his imitation of a train whistle.

His memberships included the Brandon American Legion Post #55 and the White River Jct. V.F.W. Post #765.

Survivors include two sons: Carl and Terry Hall, both of Milton; three daughters: Brenda Oney of Killington, Sheila Stasiuk of Milton and Shellie LaPlante of Hancock; a brother, Francis Hall of Greenfield, Mass.; two sisters, Glenna Seaver of Greenfield, Mass. and Elva Fish of Killington; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, a son, Bill Hall; a daughter, Gwen Hall; two brothers, Oscar and Gerald Hall; and a sister, Gertrude Mitchell.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 5 at the Rochester Federated Church. Rev Greg Homan officiated and Dorothy Robson was the pianist. Family and friends shared remembrances. Rev Homan read a poem written by Bill's sister, Glenna, entitled "Our Brother Bill." Private burial with full military honors conducted by the Vermont Army National Guard followed at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center. There were no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Lung Assn., 372 Hurricane Lane Suite 101, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
