Herwig To Speak At Battlefield Randolph Center historian and author Miriam Herwig will give a talk, "Some Exciting Stories of Vermont Pioneer Settlers," this Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton. Herwig will recount tales of several early Vermont settlers and their families, including Jonathan Carpenter, a Revolutionary War soldier who kept a journal edited and published by Herwig, and the Gris wolds of Randolph, whose story is the basis for the acclaimed 2005 children's book, "Where the Great Hawk Flies," by Liza Ketchum. Copies of both books will be available. The event is part of Vermont Days weekend, June 9 and 10, which offers free admission at the Vermont State Historic Sites and State Parks. The Hubbardton Battlefield is on Monument Hill Road, six miles east of Vermont Route 30 in Hub bardton or six miles north of exit 5 on US Route 4 in Castleton.
