A Slew of Games For TSA Boys A Slew of Games For TSA Boys By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier The Sharon Academy boys found things tough when they faced the Twinfield Trojans in make-up action. The Trojans entered the contest with a seven game winning streak and earned their eighth with a 75-39 victory over their Phoenix guests. TSA trailed the Trojans by only three points after the first period, 16-13, and then by nine after two periods, 28-19. But things got worse for the Phoenix, after that. During the third period the Trojans had TSA out in the cold, as turnover after turnover had Twinfield scoring basket after basket, while the Phoenix only managed to score three points the entire quarter. During the fourth period, Evan Frank gave the Phoenix a spark with three 3-pointers and two steals, but by then it was too late as Twinfield cruised to a 36 point win. Josh Barrett scored 30 for Twinfield. Win Over Chargers Sharon traveled to Craftsbury to face the Chargers last week, and defeated their hosts 73-69. TSA trailed their hosts by five after one, 20-15, by six after two, 41-35, and by nine after three, 57-48, before they lit up the boards for 25 points in the fourth. TSA’s defense held the Chargers to just 12 points for the win. The Craftsbury trio of Ross Grube, Ali Hassan and Logan Jones combined for all but three of their team’s points scoring 24, 22 and 20 respectively. For the second game in a row,, Frank led the Phoenix with 18 points, Colin Pope followed with 15, and Michael Young-Ward was next with a baker’s dozen. Wood added 12. 9th Win For TSA A rescheduled game against the Whitcomb Hornets was played last Saturday in Sharon, with TSA defeating their guests by 21 points, to claim their ninth victory of the season. Up by one after the first quarter, 10-9, the Phoenix outscored the Hornets by 10 in the second period to take a halftime lead, 29-17. Sharon tripled the Hornet points in the third, scoring nine to Whitcomb’s three, capping the third at 37-21. TSA outscored Whitcomb 13-9 during the fourth, wining the game 50-30. Deven Hill led the Hornets with 8 points. Frank was high-scorer for TSA with 18 points followed by Young-Ward with 11 and Pope with 9. Win Over Rockets In another rescheduled contest, the Phoenix faced the Rockets for the second time this season on Monday, and avenged their earlier season loss, 53-44. The Rockets had a one-point advantage after the first period, 15-14, and it was all tied up, 27-all entering the break. Rochester retook the lead after the third period, by three points, 38-35, but the Phoenix managed to get the upper hand during the final period and outscored the Rockets 18-6 ,to claim their third consecutive victory, 53-44. Wood and Frank shared high scoring honors with 12 points each, followed by Rocket Taylor Fuller with 11 points. Rochester’s Alex Kelly and Sharon’s Young-Ward both finished with 10 points apiece. 2-Point Loss It was a heartbreaker for TSA Tuesday night when the Cabot Huskies managed to hold on for the win, 45-43. Crocker scored the first basket of the game and then Cabot took off for a quick 10-2 tally. Alex Rogers started chipping away at the Husky lead, depositing back-to-back hoops and a basket by Frank had the Phoenix within two. The gap remained at two at the end of the first. Twenty-five seconds back into the game, Frank tied the game for the first time. Frank retied it with a foul shot. Young-Ward gave TSA their first lead of the game at 3:10, but Cabot retied things with the next basket. Michael Landry retied the game, 20-20 with the last basket of the second period. Wood and Frank put TSA up by four, before the Huskies came right back with another tie. Crocker and Landry put Sharon up again, but Cabot hit a 3-pointer. The game continued to go back-and-forth, with Cabot leading 35-33 at the end of three. Wood retied the game at 5:03 at 37-all. Cabot scored and Sharon answered a couple of times, but TSA trailed by one. TSA lagged by two with 17.9 seconds remaining in the game. Down to 3.5 seconds, Sharon still had a chance to steal the game, but Cabot hung on to the lead and the ball, to finish two up, 45-43, for the upset. Zeb Lester finished with 20 points for Cabot and Mike King had 9 points. Frank finished with 11 points and Young-Ward had 9 for the Phoenix. ____________ |
