Virginia Chenette

 

RANDOLPH—Virginia "Ginny" Chenette, 84, died peacefully Friday, May 2, 2008 at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield, after a brief illness.

She was born August 21, 1923 in Barre, the daughter of Harry and Florence (Griffin) White.

She was raised in Randolph Center and attended schools there. She lived in Barre and Montpelier, before returning to Randolph Center. She married George Chenette August 7, 1953 in Montpelier. He died January 2, 2000. After his death, she moved to the Joslyn House in Randolph.

She worked in several area kitchens, including the Eastern Star Home (now Joslyn House) and the August Lion Restaurant both in Randolph; and at the Gary Home in Montpelier.

She enjoyed watching birds, reading her cookbooks and writing in her journals. She loved reading the daily newspapers and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Survivors include her nieces: Sheila Jacobs and Mary Lou Benoir, both of Randolph; Cheryl LeClair, Janice Chenier and Nancy Churchill, all of Chester; and Sue Griswold of North Springfield; a nephew, Robert Sanford of Perkinsville; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, and two sisters: Madeline Jacobs and Christine Sanford.

Graveside memorial services were held Wednesday, May 7 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph, with Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. There were no calling hours. A gathering took place at Joslyn House immediately following the service.
